FAQ: General Questions

Q

Can I use this for painting weather boards?

A

Yes you can. The home decorating kits large size painting pad is the most ideal size to use for weatherboards. Make sure you read the home decorating kit instructions on paint loading so you produce perfect, non drip results the first time.

Q

How do I attach or detach a pad to/from a brush?

A

The Easi Paint Painting pads push out of the handle from the back (middle). Use your finger or a blunt instrument to push the pads out. Once partially freed from the handle clips, painting pads can be removed by holding the loosened portion and pulling it free from the handle.

To install new painting pads, simply arch the pad slightly, insert one side under the clips and allow the painting pad to straighten itself and lock in under the other sides paint pad retaining clips.

Q

How do I store my paint pad when I have a short break from painting?

A

What I do is use a couple of used (or new) plastic bags.
I put the paint pad (still in the handle) in one bag and wrap it up. Not too tightly as its just to keep the air off it and stop the paint drying.

I also put the loaded paint tray in another bag, again the purpose is only to keep the air off it to stop the paint thickening.

Using this method we have found you can even get away with taking an extended break (EG: until the next day) as long as they are stored out of the sun in a cool shaded area.

Q

How many rooms or meters likely to be painted before needing to replace pads and how do you know water-based and oil-based over plasterboard?

A

As long as you look after them your paint pads will do a lot of hard work.
1 set of pads should do a 3 bedroom house top to bottom with 2 coats of paint on every surface.
The bristles will slowly wear away from the outside so your painting surface will effectively become smaller.

These older pads are still great for use on a rough or textured surface ... whereas on a smooth surface you want a good clean edge on the bristles to get a smooth finish.

Hope this helps

Q

How much paint do I put in the tray? How full?

A

Dont let the tray spill over the sides. Anything below that level is fine. Ideally a 5mm to 10 mm gap between the paint in the tray and top lip of the tray is good and allows the paint tray to be moved with reduced risk of spillage.

Q

How would i go using the faux finish pad with suede paint effects?

A

It should be fine. It will produce nicely textured results. I would recommend using the Faux Finish Wizard painting pad to complement the suede paint effects look and feel. Make sure to pick a suitable base colour to match or complement your suede paint effects colour. The base coat can be in a standard semi gloss or flat paint.

Q

What is the best way to paint underneath the bottom rail of a handrail when there is not enough space for the handle of the applicator?

A

You could use the mini brush ... there is no where that it won’t fit.
If it’s a big job you could also try taking the pad out of the handle and using it by hand.

Hope this helps

Q

Whats the best pad to use for rough outdoor surfaces?

A

The large or medium regular painting pads are fine on most surfaces. For extra rough surfaces and untreated timber, we also distribute a super heavy duty painting pad called the rough and tough painting pad. Check the specialty painting pads category; the rough and tough pad should be available soon if its not there now.

Q

Which brand of paint is best suited to these painting pads?

A

You can use the Easi-Paint system with any brand of paint that you choose ... we really like Bristol paints & Solver paints ... but I tend to choose the paint more for the colours rather than the brand.

Q

Which pad is used when applying Cetol Deck - (Cetol Deck is a microporour water replellent, pigmented, protective coating for timber - Merbau - decks) - and can it be applied using the long handle. Please specific the size and color of the pad?

A

The big brush on the end of the broomstick is the way to go.
If it is a thick or sticky coating you are best off using the Multi-Purpose pads which are a light caramel colour.
If it is thin and watery you will get more control with the Stain, Oil & Varnish pads which are the blue ones.
